Making The Chandelier of Lost Earrings

By  Lauren Sagar 2013

The process of making The Chandelier of Lost Earrings itself was a meaningful one. At first the artists gathered earrings in from staff at patients at St Mary’s Maternity Unit, then they attended events to gather earrings in from the wider public. This was followed by a highly successful press and social media campaign, which gathered in many thousands of earrings over a 12 month period. Sagar and Campbell were helped by a volunteers to finally assemble the Chandelier, whilst in residency at Lime (the arts and health project based at Central Manchester University Hospitals). The act of individuals contributing something of personal value, towards a communal project to form something new, found strong resonance amongst hundreds of people (in the main women) locally, nationally and internationally.
