Marine Band

Featuring my fathers original ‘airband’ radio ‘Marine Band’ gets it’s title from the radio’s marine band setting, used to listen into harbour radio conversations during holidays. For the work it is tuned to a static channel with regular repeating signals, evoking both the sounds of waves on the beach and amusement arcade noises. As the viewer moves around the space it merges with the sounds from ‘precipice’ creating a varied sound-scape.
The toy clubs, familiar from games of crazy golf, puncturing the cage as if part of a game, or perhaps discarded from a nearby course, draw comparisons with the sound waves from the radio signal with their bent forms.
