Merz fresco

By Olivia Irvine 2023
This is the right hand wall of a large fresco painted in situ in a courtyard at Merz Gallery, Sanquhar, Scotland. It is based on charcoal collaged done during a previous residency there where I mixed charcoal drawings done in the 1980s with current landscapes made plein air. I received an award from the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust to train with frescoist, Isabelle Bonzom. I did a large part of the fresco last year and returned this year to finish and repair some damage.
