Mille-fleurs

Ada Muntean

Mille-fleurs exhibition at the Cejvan Cehaja Hamam, Mostar's historical Ottoman bath (22-29 July 2009) was the first stage of Françoise Dupré 's residency at the French Cultural Centre in Mostar. (For more information about the residency check OUVRAGE [uvra :z] artwork and artist project HERE AND THERE (2011-2003). The central theme of the installation and the residency is the art of making in the everyday (Michel de Certeau) and the role played by crafts and ornamentation in the construction of architectural space and our sensory experience of a site. Using woven and printed polythene, mirrors, French (spool) knitted black elastic and white nylon the artist created two floor pieces inspired by the architecture of the Hamam. The title mille-fleurs was chosen for its association with textiles and decorative floral patterns. (The term refers to the floral background used in medieval tapestries, such as the Dame à la Licorne). mille-fleurs, 3m76 Diam x 2cm H étoiles, 3m96 x 3m81 x 2cm H Rayures stitched bag handles. 0m90 x 1m Showns as part of OUVRAGE [uvra :z] exhibition Woven and printed polythene, mirrors, French (spool) knitted black elastic and white nylon
