MKR/ECLIPSE

By Steve Dutton 2026

In collaboration with Steve Hawley.  This piece combines footage of an eclipse filmed via a reflection in a window in the UK in 1999, a heavily snowbound Belgrade seen through the window of a bus, and a view from a plane being de-iced as it prepares to leave a nameless airport, with an animated text that is continually renewing itself and trying to say something, perhaps anything, in Slovene and English.

The text itself is a mash-up of self-reflection, internal monologue, and mistranslation, veering between what might be understood as the authentic and the fabricated. This bilingual voice addresses the viewer/reader with apparent intimacy, yet each statement is interrupted, erased, and replaced before certainty or clarity can emerge.

Ultimately, this short film is a meditation on the eclipsing of images and thoughts that may occur in moments of self-conscious introspection.
