Nebula

I made a cut-out from paper of an organic branch structure, this was then used as a stencil in the Aquatint process; resin powder fell evenly onto both the paper-cut and plate, then removing the paper cut leaving a foot-print like trace of the object departed. The plate was inked up 4 times in extended ink and printed at 90 degree rotations. In using black ink on white paper the negative of the original form becomes the positive image, similarly to an x-ray. I was inspired by photographic drawing techniques from the mid 19th century used to expose botanical matter, adopted to reveal unseen structures that underlie the physical universe.
