New work exhibited as part of A LONG SHADOW, a solo exhibition at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth, Historic Dockyards 2016-2017.
The composition emanates from the figure of an early explorer or naval officer, sitting on the beach of an island paradise contained inside a bubble. He is looking out towards the horizon, his back to the viewer. It is only a matter of time before outside forces, political and scientific, race to exploit the idyll, provoking conflict in their wake.
The central figure was inspired by the John Webber engraving entitled A Night Dance by Men in Hapaee.
