Ness of Brodgar Artist's Residency
By
Karen Wallis
2016
From mid July to mid August 2016, I will be Artist in Residence during the Ness of Brodgar excavations. For four weeks I will be drawing and making sound recordings on site. My focus will be on human activity – both the work of archeologists in the present and the traces of the Neolithic past. After the residency I will be making work in my studio and reflecting on the role for artists in historical research. There will be an exhibition in November and a series of talks and discussions with fellow artists, historians and archaeologists. A blog will follow my progress at https://www.a-n.co.uk/blogs/ness-of-brodgar-artists-residency. The project is funded by a Travel Bursary from The Artists Information Company, and is also supported using public funding by The National Lottery through Arts Council England.
