The sculpture "No Fear" gains profound meaning in light of recent conversations with survivors of
enforced disappearances. A recent discussion highlighted the psychological torment of having
one's head covered during captivity. The uncertainty about one's surroundings, the intentions of
captors, and potential future actions creates a specific type of distress and fear.
When I created this piece in 2012, I might not have been fully aware of this specific experience.
Yet it resonates deeply with themes of sensory deprivation and the terror of the unknown. The
hood, integral to this sculpture, symbolises not just physical subjugation but also the
psychological oppression faced by countless individuals. This piece intuitively captured an aspect
of their suffering, making "No Fear" a poignant reflection on the human cost of power and control
