North Sea Hydra

Painted from my own photos taken while swimming in the North Sea. The sea is very green and this painting is a celebration of green, my legs merging with patterns in the sand, seaweed and sunlight on the sea floor. The skies over the sea so often have a weighty blanket of cloud with a strip on light underneath, and as I swim at dawn its colours are warm. Distant tankers and container ships are a permanent feature, blending in to the sea. I like the thought of coming from and being part of the sea, its history and myth.
