Not sculpture
‘Not sculpture’ is my ongoing collection of regular photographs capturing accidental sculptures encountered as I go about my day-to-day life. Reflecting my practice themes, these sculptural compositions often feature elements associated with construction, the built environment, buildings and architecture. Man-made colour is often a catalyst, as is the element of unexpected juxtaposition, but there are no set parameters - I simply take a quick photograph of what I see that interests me when I see it.
This is a tiny selection of images from this huge body of work.
I began noticing and sharing found sculptural compositions in the built environment during Covid lockdown walks in 2020. Subsequently I realised that I’d actually been capturing occasional ‘not sculptures’ for a long time prior to that and now this line of enquiry is a key element of my practice linking my installation, sculptural and photographic work rooted in the experience of physical space.
I am currently working on different opportunities to further develop the idea as well as to exhibit the collection of circa 500 images beyond their current online home in a set of Instagram highlights.
