Once Removed
My fingers do the thinking, playing with materials and processes, creating curiosities and surprises. Making to explore possibilities, absurdity, the fragility of the world and our engagement with it.
Here are some little watercolour paintings. On labels – gift tags – suggesting that they are appendages, identifiers, reference notes. But where are the gifts? Perhaps in untold stories.
Intensity of looking matters more than choice of subject.
Knitted paper tubes are caught between the shelves – as we are held between the past and the future.
Some things, even broken fragments, get noticed, collected, observed, preserved. Many objects – and their stories – are lost.
A few items are placed in a glass cabinet.
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time
T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets
