Overnight stay.....just a few days

By  Danny Manning 2019
Polish Embroidery text over my son's toy. This small object- a work in progress explores my polish identity, memory, nostalgia, notions of the home, migration and loss. These current small works are greatly informed by the writings of Rozsika Parker in particular 'The Subversive Stitch' quoting 'Louise Bourgeois who turned to stitching in her old age. She wrote' When I was growing up , all the women in my house were using needles. I have always had a fascination with the needle. The magic power of the needle. The needle is used to repair damage. It is a claim to forgiveness. It is never aggressive, it is not a pin.'
