Dark Times

By Shelly Goldsmith 2014

Dark Tines is from the collaborative project Pairings II. The piece is constructed by pairing a reclaimed childs glove and a piece of anthracite coal.

The tiny glove carries the image of my daughter's face, but steps in to represent all children. The image  is  applied to the fibres of the glove through digital dyesublimation,  I chose and mined the piece of coal from a south wales open cast coalmine, a signifier, for me, of a record of historical life and death of all living things on the planet.
