Patella chartula

By  Helen Garbett 2024

These 3D paper limpets were made from recycled PhD writing which I generate a lot of! Occasionally, little bits of text can be seen in the paper mix, hinting at what I was exploring at the time. Each paper limpet has a distinct surface colour which is created with an embellishment of ink, charcoal and pastel but they all belong to the species Patella chartulla commonly known as the Small Paper Limpet. Following the process used by scientists to identify new species, I have documented its place of discovery, its characteristics, and defining features as part of my artistic practice. This work will be shown in the RBSA Summer Show during June and July 2024
