Portal / Here and There

Portal /Here and There is the second phase of an installation project created by Storymine Directors ceramic artist Emma Summers and filmmaker Peter Summers in 2017 and was funded through the Arts Council of England through 2017 and 2019. Inspired by traditional folk and fairy tales, the door handle symbolising a Portal into the lives of the project participants, this work focused on the rural community of South Shropshire and the relationship of residents and individual stories that lie behind the doors. Casting multiple individual porcelain ceramic door handles, the project documented the stories of local individuals and how it shapes our sense of belonging, identity and relationships. Documenting individual stories through a variety of media, people’s thoughts, inspirations, reflections and aspirations, the project developed an artistic work. This new work will see new ceramic casting sessions in Mortimer Forest and sited works along an easy access trail to mark the centenary of the Forestry Commission.
