Reclaiming the Kerb

I went on a walk with a shopping trolley through various cities across the UK. Every time I met an obstacle, for instance, a bin I could not pass or a kerb I could not scale, I designed and built a solution to the problem using materials available at the location. Sometimes I would have to walk for some time to find materials to bring back to the kerb in order to build the required construction, often a ramp, occasionally a pavement extension. Existing as a performance in the street, the unusual nature of the activity aimed to challenge the accepted understanding of the built environment. The resulting constructions were brought back to the studio acting as a record of a trajectory through the city, mapping the topography and the available discarded materials.
