A video artwork
I pass these red lights almost daily, ever since they were installed alongside the completion of the Energy Centre. These two bold red lines, marking the entrance and exit of the car park, have always caught my attention.
Each time I saw them, I imagined how I could bring them to life—make them dance. This idea became the project's foundation: a way of "blooming" creating movement from a single photograph. That one image became the seed from which the entire composition grew. I began with stop-frame animation and gradually expanded into various styles, creating dynamic 3- and 5-second sequences.
These diverse fragments were then carefully stitched together to form a cohesive, flowing composition. To complete the work, I composed an original piece of music to accompany and enhance the "dance" of the red lights.
This piece forms part of the Blythian Memes series, an ongoing exploration of place, movement, and imagination. The film is not the end of the project. The film is searched frame by frame looking for interesting compositions. Compositions generated from the process are exported from the film and digitally enhanced. These final pieces grow from the process and couldn't exist without the process.
