Regarding Wrecks

By  Alec Stevens 2015

1/6 drawings produced for this project, The Royal Charter.

Work produced during the first residency within the National Trust's Penrhyn Castle Property. "As a woodcarver himself, he (Alec Stevens) has also become interested in George Sholto Douglas-Pennant’s souvenir of a local tragedy, the fragment of the ship the Royal Charter, which was shipwrecked off the coast of Moelfre on Anglesey in 1859. The ornately carved fragment is normally displayed in Lord Penrhyn’s Sitting Room. Why is this evidence of a sad story so powerful? Alec would like to make it the beginning of a collection of made-up tragic objects for the castle, to be presented as if it were real. These are currently shown as a series of drawings, but if the proposal were realized, they would be carved in wood and meticulously labelled with their fictional stories of tragedy." - Sara Roberts, Project Curator https://sararobertsblog.wordpress.com https://www.alecstevens.co.uk/regarding-wrecks
