Regarding Wrecks

Work produced during the first residency within the National Trust's Penrhyn Castle Property. "As a woodcarver himself, he (Alec Stevens) has also become interested in George Sholto Douglas-Pennant’s souvenir of a local tragedy, the fragment of the ship the Royal Charter, which was shipwrecked off the coast of Moelfre on Anglesey in 1859. The ornately carved fragment is normally displayed in Lord Penrhyn’s Sitting Room. Why is this evidence of a sad story so powerful? Alec would like to make it the beginning of a collection of made-up tragic objects for the castle, to be presented as if it were real.
