Rochester Railway Station Public Art commission

Richard Gooding

In April 2015 I was commissioned by Medway Council and Network Rail to produce work for the new Rochester Station building, which was officially opened by the Duke of Kent in February 2016. To complement the artwork on the building’s front elevation, artwork was also applied to a glass dividing wall in the subway leading to the platforms. Based on old medieval maps and vertical in format, their zig zag pattern is the inspiration used on the front of the building. The maps shows the pilgrim's journey from London to Dover and to the continent.
