Rooted in Lead: Plants, Place and Mining Legacy

Ongoing participatory project, North Pennines National Landscape

Rooted in Lead explores the relationship between lead-mining heritage, metalliferous plants and communities of the North Pennines through walking, drawing, printmaking and collective making.

Developed through walks, workshops and site-responsive activities, the project brings together botanical observation, geological histories and lived experience. Participants are invited to explore how plants growing in former mining landscapes reveal complex relationships between geology, industry and ecological adaptation.

Through collaborative making, including printmaking, metal point drawing and creative walks, the project creates opportunities for slower, more attentive encounters with a landscape shaped by both human activity and deep geological processes.

The project is ongoing, continuing my long-term exploration of how creative practice can deepen relationships between people, place and the more-than-human histories embedded within landscapes.
