Sensible Shoes

These shoes were produced as part of my ongoing residency in the laser cutting studio at Plymouth Art College. The starting point was a flat net from an original Roman sandal.
I respected the original design but customised it to include imagery that reflects our current anxieties about the environment. I have cut out patterns in the sole of the shoe, inspired by the sea and crustaceans, that I will use as a stencil to create a trail of suggestive footprints.
This work forms part of collaboration with Anna Keleher, interdisciplinary artist who is currently producing work for Torbay Geopark with funding from the Arts Council.
