Seven plates work in progress. 2015-16

This piece is the first sculpture in a series for a solo exhibition to be installed at Wolverhampton Art Gallery in December 2016. The setting is the domestic interior specifically the kitchen, scene of sustenance and creativity as well as accident and disaster. The intention is to transform mundane objects, plates, cups, spoons, through use of scale and distortion, flatness and relief, although issues of repetition and the relation between one and many also arise. Wood is chosen for its qualities of warmth and nourishment, though if charred could also invoke ideas of conflagration.
