Shooting History: 1

By  Sandy Sykes 2010 - 2011

Martin Appleson

One of a series of photopolymer etchings made at an Art Lab. Residency at Rabley Contemporary Drawing Centre in 2010. This coincided with a solo exhibition I had showing there at the time. The prints relate to the ‘Cover me’ and the ‘Ambush’ series of drawings. In these prints the imagery includes historic warriors on horseback suggesting that war never ceases and we, as humans, do not change much. I try to walk the fine line between comedy and tragedy in these works. They are in an Edition of 30. In 2011 I was an invited artist to the ‘BITE’ exhibition at the Mall Galleries. These works were chosen by the judges, in particular Richard Noyce to represent my participation.
