Sites of Meaning was a project devised and led by Charles Monkhouse for the parish of Middleton and Smerrill in the Derbyshire Peak District. The project marked each of the 17 entrances to the parish with stones baring text chosen or written by one of its parishioners. The project, although completed in 2007 still draws visitors and walkers to walk around it stones.
The text on this stone is by Charles Hodgson and was suggested by Henry Brocklehurst. The stone was designed by Charles Monkhouse and carved by Celia Kilner.
