Spring Cotte

By  Tim Norris 2016
The Spring Cotte was built for The Land Art Exhibition 2015, Nolhaga Park, Alingsas, Sweden. Spring Cotte is made from traditional Swedish pine roof shingles. These are split by a unique heritage shingle slicing machine. This gives the finished tile a distinctive natural curve. This process inspired Tim to create the work in combination with welded steel. The sculpture rests under the shadow of a huge pine tree and is surrounded by steep rocky walls and moss covered stones. The form at first sight is a closed structure, however , when the sculpture is visited there is an opening at the rear which gives access into the center of the work . It feels very different inside enclosed yet bathed in light. The shingles funnel the light into the center of the cone. The sculpture is open to the public all year round and is Curated by Kulturforeningen Tomet.
