I'm inspired by nature although I work intuitively, from memory and imagination and not directly from a subject. I'm particularly interested in capturing 'mystery' - the spaces between realism and the unseen. Each painting is approached as an individual work and without a plan of action. I feel my way until it visually excites me.

Between two places

'Thrust' has strong structural elements with architectural associations, verticals, horizontals, squares and rectangles . They can be reminiscent of internal and external walls and rooms, places and spaces linked with a passage, a portal, a doorway. And the sensitive surface qualities create textures and feeling alluding to archaeology and limitless time and space, and drawn or incised lines and distressed areas of scratching are like well trodden paths.
