Stasis

A transitional object between nature and sculpture with a French Polished oak stump. The technique associated with fine wooden furniture is used to bring life to raw, cut wood, transformed through sanding, smoothing and preparing of its rough sawn ends, and the subsequent application of many fine layers of French polish. The polished surface references labour, care and industry involved in wood and land management, as well as the wood we bring into our homes as furniture, highlighting human relationships with, and attitudes to materials & nature.
