Steel

By Claire Tindale 2015
An installation created during a two day residency at Bloc Projects in Sheffield as part of the MSB exchange between Manchester, Sheffield and Birmingham. The project is open to further future development. Drawing on the industrial heritage of the city, artists on the residency were invited to participate in the project by donating or lending a steel object. In addition to this they were asked to write a proposal for an artwork in response to the theme 'Steel'. A selection of the proposals were then interpreted, without any verbal explanation, in the form of miniature 3d maquettes. The miniatures were then presented on the steel objects, referencing the 'supporting' nature of the material to the idea. The original proposals were also presented alongside the models, together with any donated objects which had not been used.
