Strays and Fragments

By  Vanessa Rolf 2022
‘Strays and Fragments’ explores the value of objects, what we treasure, how we protect them and how they shape our ideas about being human. Strays and fragments relates to the archival process of trying to reunite broken or lost objects to create a whole narrative. The piece reworks old clothing, the appliquéd shapes taken from off cuts of wood found in a garage. This pocket or maybe a kind of bag, a holding place for things rather than a home. and they don’t protect or suggest value necessarily but they are where we put the objects that we need and use often, the things we need to keep close.
