Sudden Memory

This is a fresco, meaning it is painted with pigment and water on a fresh lime plaster. There is also some secco (egg tempera) on it, which was necessary when I added details to the dried plaster. It depicts a collection of Turkish objects, including a copper tray, a plate, jug and coffee pot. It was part of a series of frescoes made during a micro-residency 'Life Under Lockdown' and subsequently exhibited at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. The series looks at notions of grief, loss and treasured objects left behind. These objects belonged to my parents and. when my father died, I wanted to make art relating to them. The fragmented look is a comment on how incomplete memories can suddenly visit us.
