...The reason for the installation of this extensive array of boundary markers arises from the discovery of considerable mineral wealth (lead ore) between Loggerheads and Cadole in the eighteenth century. The Grosvenor family claimed mineral rights under the common waste in the parish of Llanferres and the Lords of Mold those in Mold parish. The rapid and enthusiastic exploitation of the mineral royalties in several of the lead workings. After several court hearings the matter was finally decided in the Court of Exchequer with the with the judgement in favour of the boundary claimed by the Lords of Mold. The boundary markers were erected shortly afterwards. The name of the Loggerheads area is said to arise from this dispute. The Loggerheads Inn appears on appears on a plan attached to a mining lease in 1736.
