The Collecting Instinct project

By  Jane Ponsford 2014
Cast linen pulp with pigment and dyes, wire and thread, yellow lichen These are from a group of eight small studio-works. The works in the ‘Collecting Instinct’ series are based on collections of ideas and thoughts about materials and form. The focus is on the qualities in handmade paper reminiscent of the material origins of the pulp, the fragments, threads and structure of the original cloth. The work was shown in 2015 as part of a two person exhibition at West Dean, 'Cloth and Thread' and at 'Select Showcase', in Cheltenham with Stroud International Textiles. Private Collection

Short Path

Storytree

I think of this piece as a drawing which describes a circle in a very complicated way. It was made using a repetitive arrangement to accumulate near identical elements and yet what emerged emphasises the differences; the errors in the process. One of three related pieces.
