The Engine

For the opening of David Cotterrell's Maelstrom and Bedwyr Williams' Hypercaust in Chester, 2017, I was invited as a local emerging artist to exhibit site specific work in King Charles Tower Gardens with funding from Cheshire West and Chester Council and Arts Council England as part of a mentoring programme. 'The Engine', is a lawnmower, which has the sound of a purring cat embodied within it, altered to sound like a revving engine. A strip of grass cut into the gardens punctuates the sculpture like a line drawing, giving the viewer an unexpected and humorous experience of the gardens.
