I made this charcoal drawing in memory of an artist friend and his girl friend who emigrated to New Zealand in 1981 I saw them off at the station.
What became clear to me was the sense of profound bereavement felt not only for those leaving but more so for those left behind.
In May 2022 the UN Refugee Agency stated that the global number of displaced people has passed 100 million for the first time. With global warming, conflict, and the shocking cynical recent attack on international law by the United States this can only get worse.
