The Last of the IJsselmeer Ice

By  James Winnett 2009

James Winnett

Dimensions
135cm x 50cm x 55cm

Blocks of ice sourced from the freshwater sea, the IJsselmeer, are carved into a traditional Dutch street scene and arranged in a freezer borrowed from a local man. A small infrared video camera relays a view from inside the freezer to a monitor placed on top. This work was developed as part of the wider exhibition, 'Stop.Rewind.Skip.Play.' which explored historical notions of 'the future', unpicking both local and global imagery associated with 'forgotten futures' and ideas of progress and sustainability.
