The Market.

By  Steven Ingman 2017

The painting ‘The Market’ juxtaposes busy urban environments with empty desolation. As an artist I am attracted to forms that are both falling out of or into use. I seek out negative spaces of empty shops, incomplete office buildings or abandoned leisure venues, found within our cityscapes. I find these space fascinating and I take inspiration from the themes of change, creation and destruction and invokes a timelessness ambiguity in his landscapes. Ingman’s paintings are striking in colour and composition, using washes, drips and layering to emphasize the strong structural forms within his creations. His paintings visualise the contrast between purposeful and abandoned spaces and revel in the polarity of formlessness and architectural order.
