Tin tabernacles, as they are known, first appeared in the late Victorian era, as an affordable response to demand from developing industrial locations. These are the earliest examples of prefabricated architecture. Theie heyday lasted until the 1920s. Around 80 examples survive into the 21st Century, in varying degrees of repair.
