Torn

By  Maria Kuipers 2016
This is one of those paintings which underwent a process of almost violent spontaneous destructive force during it's development, tearing, incising, cutting, stitching and reinstating. It was an exploratory and cathartic process until I arrived in this 'state of being'. I had to work with the torn area and allow tares and marks to make their own statements without tidying up and 'polishing' the painting. I used warm tertiary colours whilst considering geometric form, feelings, touch, acceptance, belief, existence.
