Trace Elements

By  Jane Ponsford 2010
Work made during a residency at ACS International School, Cobham. During the project I worked collaboratively with pupils throughout the school, casting paper and colouring it with traces of material from the local landscape. We found pollen, mud, pine needles and ash from Eyjafjallajokull, the Icelandic volcano.

I think of this piece as a drawing which describes a circle in a very complicated way. It was made using a repetitive arrangement to accumulate near identical elements and yet what emerged emphasises the differences; the errors in the process. One of three related pieces.
