Traquair House

The St Ronan's Standard, printed at Robert Smails Printing Works, Innerleithen until 1916 captures the life & work in the mills, as well as political affairs of the time. Ethel Moorhead is referenced in an article in the paper in 1914, detailing her activism as a Scottish Suffragette and plans to attack Traquair House and a fire bombing in Glasgow. The text draws direct links to local heritage using original type from Robert Smails and contemporary techniques in photo lithography. The hills in the area were a vital source of sheep farming and fresh water fro the mills.
