Tyrian Blue is a silk panel of exceptional colour vibrancy depicting an embroidered silk and wool yarn linear Murex Shell. The vibrant purple colour refers to the historical Phonecian colour dye extracted from Murex and Whelk shellfish. The cartographic linear motif of the shell supports the inductive narrative describing the Phonecian trade with Cornish tin-streamers. This work is reproduced as a multiple using papers and frottage as well as print.
