This painting was the result of simplifying and 'unpacking' elements from my earlier work, which I felt was becoming too dense. I wished to maintain the visual impact of my earlier work. I have achieved this by refiguring marks and stripe into a loose grid format and by allowing colour to 'work' as much as possible on its own terms.
