Untitled (Infra)

By  Caroline Jane Harris 2014 - 2015
The image began as a photograph of oil on water, an 'infra-thin' (Duchamp) difference between two liquids, a surface depicting a depth, manifested as a printed surface. The image was digitally manipulated into a half-tone pattern, veiling the picture with a two-dimensionalising visual structure. I cut the bottom left-hand corner out by hand, relating to the index of the artist's mark and time-spent in contemplation, information which is antagonistically unreadable in the digital print. I am interested in dualities in terms of real and virtual depth and space, physical and digital deconstruction and the obsolescence of technological developments and traditional practices.
