By  Ruth Spencer 2018
One of a number of paintings about architects rooms and spaces. This painting is of Walter Gropius' roof terrace after he moved from Germany to America. The long shadows and autumnal foliage suggests the ending of a period.

An installation in an exhibition Blues Skies, Custard Factory, Birmingham, UK. the light shadow was based on a image in one industrial building and transferred to the gallery in another. The gallery was roof lit and the light shadow had some logic. However the intention was to undermine the spectator's idea of the space by introducing a light that was inconsistent with other visual cues.

Shedding light

An installation in an exhibition, Space Midlands Art Centre, Birmingham, UK 2004. the light shadow was taken from a domestic interior and transferred to a gallery space in the Art Centre. The intention was to introduce a shadow that was unexpected and unexplained into an exhibition area, where there was a high level of people passing through. Most people instinctively around them for the source of the light.
