In 1980 a close friend encouraged me to draw and paint in situ any items of interest related to the huge Victorian wardrobe which stood in her bedroom on the first floor of her large Victorian House when she was away in Cambridge. I soon discovered a photograph (which I suspect she had wanted me to find) of two small girls on the back of which was written ‘Solomon - sergeant major liberated Jan 45’ and below in another hand "Southampton 1945'. This was to set me off on a voyage of imaginative discovery resulting in this large pencil, ink and engine oil on paper work.
