A Tool for Conversation explores whose voices are heard in the conversations that inform the systems and environments we live in, the work asks how we might create spaces for more complex, compassionate and collective forms of exchange.
Drawing on the visual language of traditional seaside “peep-through” boards, playful scenes that invite visitors to momentarily inhabit another place or identity, the work encourages people to step into alternative perspectives and embody other viewpoints. By doing this it becomes both an invitation and a challenge and acts as a structure for listening, speaking and imagining together.
The work is constructed using repurposed materials and remnants from previous projects, including textiles and objects foraged from the local area, bringing reuse, care and the environmental implications of making within a time of climate crisis to the foreground.
