Worthless Remains

By Sara Heywood 2025

Worthless Remains is a body of work that explores the discarded waste and detritus of the exhaustive fertiliser production at post industrial site, Parque Industrial Baia do Tejo, Barreiro, Lisbon, Portugal (formally CUF Industrial Park, 1907- 1975). Some of the site still remains highly toxic. Incorporating direct contact photography with soil and water samples, the artwork attempts to address the colossal ecological impact and legacy of industrial production waste on a community and its landscape.

In September 2025, I undertook a month long international residency at PADA Studios as part of their International Artist Residency programme (PADA 53), with a resulting exhibition, Under the Sun: Snail Trails and Other Stories, curated by Laura Gamma Martins.
