Adam Stone

Leeds

My work is currently focussed upon the relationship between painting and everyday place. At a time when notions of place and the quotidian are being globally contested this work explores what kind of new understanding of place the practice of painting might offer. The research is centred on the Merrion  Shopping Centre, Leeds and is informed by onsite investigation and the study of various local archives. The ideas and discourses underpinning the work include psychogeographic practices of walking, phenomenological understanding of being in place, memory and the archive and new materialist concepts which propose a radical rethinking of our perception and place in the world
