Tracey Tofield

Whitley Bay

My work is concerned with boundary, connection and relationship- essentially a reflection on apparent dualities, questions of Self, Other and the figuration of human relationship.

I make, study, research and create series or 'bodies' of work/forms.

Drawing is  central to my practice yet I work across media and disciplinary boundaries including performance, community collaboration negotiation, event curation and direction, arts and health symposia, workshop and research, installation, video, painting, bookworks.

I am fascinated by "the space between", metaphysical and psychological dynamics within human interaction and pro prioception- body knowledge. Human beings seem to agree on a visual reality. There are no lines separating off things from other 'things' yet each object, person, item is other to itself, bounded, named, distinct. Oddly, as a visual artist I am interested in what is not seen, the space between. The World Turned Upside Down.
